Email marketing is one of the best ways to connect with your audience but, when not utilized properly, there’s a lot that can go wrong! Here are a few tips to keep in mind next time you fire up Mail Chimp…
- Be personal. Really, try to be as human as possible. In a world full of spam, gimmicks and click bait, you’ll have the challenge of convincing your audience that there is someone [who cares about them] on the other side of the email.
- Be conversational. At a marketing workshop in Orlando, I had the opportunity to meet with Dean Jackson, a well known email marketer and inventor of the 9 word email. Dean used a great example about being personal. He challenged everyone to scroll through our phones and take a look at our most recent personal email. The tone was different, the subject line was easy–this is how marketing should be, too!
- Don’t sell. This might sound like weird advice coming from an Internet marketer but people don’t like to be sold…especially in emails. Use email marketing to engage, ask questions and build relationships. People buy with their emotions and you’re going to have to get them to trust you! Let them make decisions on their terms but be there to help when they are ready to learn more.
